A Frightening Moment on the Baseball Field
WEST PALM BEACH — Sarah Stuebe recalled the moment last March when she heard her husband, Riley, yell her name as he ran onto the baseball field during a youth game at Phipps Park in West Palm Beach.
What appeared to be a routine play involving the couple’s 6-year-old son, Oscar, was anything but that, as a fly ball to center field struck Oscar in the chest, causing him to collapse to the ground and sending him into cardiac arrest.
“He yelled my name and the tone, the way he yelled it, I knew immediately there was something was wrong and I called 911 right away,” said Stuebe, a Lake Worth Beach resident.

Thanks to quick responses from Sarah Stuebe, a registered nurse who performed CPR until another parent took over, and West Palm Beach Fire Rescue firefighters, who arrived on scene within minutes, doctors at St. Mary’s Medical Center were able to save Oscar.
