The City of Norfolk has partnered with Children’s Nebraska and Project ADAM to install two publicly accessible AEDs at Norfolk parks, expanding access to lifesaving equipment in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.
The AEDs were provided through Children’s Nebraska’s Project ADAM affiliate program and Heart Safe Madison County grant funding from the Acklie Charitable Foundation. One is located on the back of the stage at Johnson Park, while the second is located just outside the front gates of AquaVenture Water Park.
“Having readily accessible AEDs in our community facilities can make a critical difference when every second matters.”
— Trever O’Brien, Assistant Fire Chief, Norfolk Fire and Rescue
The new AEDs are intended to provide quick access during cardiac emergencies at or near the parks. Norfolk emergency dispatchers can also direct callers to the nearest AED location when appropriate.
The installations are part of the broader Heart Safe Madison County initiative, which is working to expand AED access and cardiac emergency preparedness throughout the community. Project ADAM also works with schools and organizations to promote well-maintained AEDs, CPR and AED training, and practiced emergency response plans.
“Norfolk is a community committed to united, long-term ownership of improving safety for its citizens, and we are pleased to facilitate placement of these AEDs in collaboration with the City of Norfolk.”
— Dr. Matthew Sorensen, Project ADAM Medical Director
Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the locations of the new AEDs when visiting Johnson Park and AquaVenture.
