Public AED Installed to Improve Emergency Response in Local Parks
(WHTM) — The CDC estimates around 805,000 Americans experience a heart attack each year, which is nearly one person every 40 seconds. One organization is working to save lives in Lenker Park in Dauphin County.
The Dauphin County AED project installed an AED at a local park today, and they hope that this is just the beginning.
“This is the first park I ever coached,” said Don Holmes, the director of Parks and Recreation in West Hanover Township. “Actually, about two summers ago now, we had a kid playing here, and you love her going and having a whole heart problem ended up in the hospital, so I feel like that triggered some red flags. And I was like, I think that we need to start looking into getting AEDs at parks.”
However, Holmes said for these devices to be effective, the community must familiarize itself with them.
