Two new public-access AED SaveStations have been installed at City Hall and Kelso Beach at Nawash Park in Owen Sound, expanding 24/7 access to lifesaving equipment while honouring the legacy of Tyson Downs.
The SaveStations were donated by the Tyson Downs Association (TDBeAT), with support from the Owen Sound Attack. One is located on the south exterior wall along 8th Street East at City Hall, while the other is installed on the water-facing wall of the Order of Good Cheer Washrooms at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.
“The addition of these AED SaveStations at City Hall and Kelso Beach at Nawash Park is an investment in community safety.”
— Mayor Ian Boddy, City of Owen Sound
With the two new installations, Owen Sound now has three outdoor AED SaveStations thanks to the generosity of TDBeAT and the Owen Sound Attack. The outdoor cabinets are monitored 24/7 through cellular technology and designed to keep the AEDs accessible in all weather conditions.
The installations continue the legacy of Tyson Downs, whose sudden passing inspired his family and friends to take action. Through its TDBeAT program, the Tyson Downs Association provides free CPR and AED awareness training and education to youth ages 16 to 21, helping young people develop the skills and confidence to respond during an emergency.
“If there’s a cardiac emergency, call 911, start CPR, and send someone to retrieve an AED. These three steps can make all the difference.”
— Deb Hennig, President, Action First Aid/SaveStation
Guided by Tyson’s words, “You don’t need to be the best, you just need to give your best,” TDBeAT continues working to empower others with lifesaving skills while creating a lasting legacy in his memory.
