The SaveStation tower is equipped with a lifesaving Automatic External Defibrillator or AED. It is accessible to anyone 24/7 in the case of a sudden cardiac emergency and is located in front of the gift shop at Battleship Park.

This tower is a lit, highly visible, weather-resistant, climate-controlled unit that houses the AED, offering instant public access. When opened, the alarmed and monitored SaveStation alerts others that help is needed and provides easy-to-follow instructions for the public.

The Bay Area Nurse Practitioner Association, along with Coastal Emergency Medical Skills and Heart for Athletes, joined forces to help donate the first of its kind in the state of Alabama. Those organizations also provided information below on why the SaveStation Tower is needed:

Only 1 in 10 individuals survives out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in young athletes aged 18 and younger, with sports-related SCAs accounting for nearly 40% of all cases. Immediate CPR and AED use can increase survival rates by up to 75% or more, as brain damage can set in within 4 minutes if CPR isn’t started immediately.
