Two outdoor AED SaveStations will be installed at Sand Creek Athletic Complex and Riverwind Park in Coon Rapids following donations from the Coon Rapids Fire Department Community Fund and the North Star Lions Club.
The Coon Rapids City Council approved the contributions on May 19, covering the nearly $15,000 cost of the climate-controlled AED cabinets as part of the city’s ongoing Heart Safe Community initiative.
“Anyone can access the machine quickly while also calling 911.”
— Ryan Gunderson, Recreation Coordinator
The SaveStations provide 24/7 public access to automated external defibrillators and include features such as continuous illumination, cellular monitoring, charging capability, and built-in cameras for security and tracking.
Officials selected Sand Creek Athletic Complex due to its high visitor traffic, with more than 120,000 annual visitors and multiple sports fields hosting tournaments and community events throughout the year.
The second SaveStation will be installed at Riverwind Park near the city’s pickleball courts, basketball court, playground, and community center.
“They save lives, and it is important to know how to use them.”
— Council Member Peter Butler
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Sand Creek installation is scheduled for June 10.
