The Township of Severn has expanded public access to life-saving AEDs with the installation of three new outdoor SaveStations at busy community locations.

Two SaveStations and automated external defibrillators were donated by North Simcoe Tree Service and installed at Washago Centennial Park and the Coldwater Fairgrounds. A third SaveStation was purchased and installed by Beers Pharmacy in Washago.

“These new SaveStations are an important investment in the safety and well-being of our community.”

— Mayor Mike Burkett

The new cabinets provide 24/7 outdoor access to AEDs and are designed to protect the equipment throughout hot and cold weather. Built-in monitoring technology also helps ensure each AED remains ready for use.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Action First Aid provided an awareness session to show attendees how to access an AED and respond during a cardiac emergency.

“The device provides clear voice instructions and will only deliver a shock when one is needed. The most important thing is for bystanders to act quickly and confidently.”

— Deb Hennig, President, Action First Aid

No certification is required to use an AED. During an emergency, a bystander can open the SaveStation, remove the device, turn it on, and follow the voice prompts.

Township officials thanked North Simcoe Tree Service and Beers Pharmacy for helping expand cardiac safety coverage for residents and visitors throughout Severn.
