Lucan Biddulph has installed four new outdoor SaveStation AEDs in local parks and recreation spaces, providing 24/7 public access to life-saving defibrillators throughout the community.
The new units are located at the Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Centre, the Lucan soccer complex, Elm Street Park, and Market Street Park. Municipal officials unveiled the stations during ribbon-cutting ceremonies held on April 22.
“Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time. Having an automated external defibrillator readily available, especially in outdoor, high-use community spaces, can make the difference between life and death.”
— Darcey Cook, Community Services and Facilities Director
The initiative was inspired by a local cardiac arrest survivor who collapsed during a recreational hockey game in January 2025. CPR was started immediately, and access to an AED helped save the individual’s life.
Following the incident, the Merner family partnered with community organizations and local donors to help expand public AED access across Lucan Biddulph.
“Your leadership, compassion and determination to turn a very personal experience into something that will benefit our entire community is truly inspiring.”
— Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson
Several local organizations contributed funding toward the installations, including sports associations, service clubs, and the fire department. An additional indoor AED was also installed at the arena through support from local groups.
Representatives from Action First Aid attended the unveiling to provide CPR and AED demonstrations and emphasized the long-term impact the SaveStations will have within the community.
