PeaceHealth has installed four new outdoor AED SaveStations across the Eugene-Springfield area as part of an effort to improve public access to life-saving emergency equipment during cardiac events.

The automated external defibrillators are now available at the Willamalane Les Schwab Sports Complex, Hamlin Middle School, Lane Community College, and the Babe Ruth Sport Complex — locations that regularly host youth and young adult sports activities.

The AEDs are housed in unlocked outdoor cabinets and include instructions for public use, allowing bystanders to respond immediately during cardiac emergencies.

“Every minute without a medical response results in a 10% higher chance of death.”

Organizers emphasized the importance of early intervention before emergency responders arrive, noting that immediate CPR and defibrillation can dramatically improve survival outcomes.

“It really is important for bystanders — people like you and I — to know how to do hands only CPR and to have access to a defibrillator.”

PeaceHealth says the long-term goal is to continue expanding public AED access throughout parks, sports facilities, and community activity centres across the region.
