Leadership Elk & Cameron Supports Life-Saving Initiative
ST. MARYS – Late Tuesday afternoon, members of the community gathered at Benzinger Park at the softball field closest to the park office for a ribbon cutting held for the new 24/7 public access SaveStation and AED that was recently installed.
Attendees at Tuesday’s event included city and county officials. The effort to install the SaveStation and AED was spearheaded by members of Leadership Elk & Cameron (LEC).
Kate Brock, executive director of the Community Education Center of Elk & Cameron Counties, thanked all those in attendance. “One of our absolute favorite programs that we run in Leadership Elk & Cameron,” Brock said.

Brock explained that Leadership Elk & Cameron shows participants what local communities have to offer, what their strengths and assets are, what their concerns are, and where opportunities are for improvement. The program is meant to spark civic readiness to encourage participants to help improve their own communities.
“This is one such great example of a project – a visible project, a very important project – that this group of Leadership Elk & Cameron alumni completed last year,” Brock said.
For the project to be possible, the group raised over $15,000 from donors such as the Cameron County Community Chest, the Harrison and Muriel Dauer Stackpole Family Fund at the Elk County Community Foundation, and the Elk County Commissioners’ Act 13 Grant.
