CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A park in Cumberland County now has a new addition that is hoped to help save lives.

The Peyton Walker Foundation celebrated the opening of a new “SaveStation” on July 24 at the community park in Lower Allen Township.

The addition makes an automated external defibrillator (AED) available in the park 24 hours a day, offering additional protection for anyone who may suffer from a cardiac event.

The ease of use is a big plus, officials say.

“Anyone can use an AED,” Peyton Walker Foundation President Julie Walker said. “Once you get the AED and open it up, it tells you very slowly and clearly exactly what to do, step by step.”

Walker lost her daughter, Peyton, at just 19 years old. Since then, she has pushed for mandates on cardiac arrest training, emergency response plans, and, most importantly, AEDs and other life saving devices to be present at athletic events and practices across the Commonwealth.

Three additional SaveStations are planned to be installed across the park.
